TOP 5 - NEW RESTAURANTS IN THAILAND UNDER THE DIRECTION OF MICHELIN STAR CHEFS

It’s a positive endorsement of Thailand’s dinning scene that 5 new restaurants , four in Bangkok and one Aziamendi in Phuket, have recently open under the direction of Michelin starred Chefs. This is fuelling speculation that Michelin Guides plan to publish an edition covering Thailand. But that’s another story. 

L’Atelier de Joel Robuchon

Joël Robuchon has harvested 28 Michelin stars world wide across his 20 restaurants. He is the most important French chef since Escoffier.

The food is modern Gallic without losing its rustic authenticity. The décor follows the same concept as all L’Atelier branches designed by interior designer Pierre-Yves Rochon (who did London's Savoy and Paris’s Four Seasons George V). Executive Chef Olivier Limousin combines French techniques and the best ingredients he can get. Wine takes a leading role in the dining experience.

Savelberg

Dutch Chef Henk Savelberg closed his one star Michelin restaurant in The Hague to bring his brand to Bangkok. He is the only Chef in The Netherlands to be awarded Michelin stars in four different restaurants.  The food is modern, immaculately styled with a strong French influence. Here the master is in the kitchen of the restaurant that bears his name. The wine menu is based on the old Savelberg in the Netherlands, with a heavy list of wines by the glass.

J’Aime

French cuisine created and conceived by Jean-Michel Lorain. This is  his first venture in Asia. He was the youngest recipient of the coveted 3 Michelin stars and comes from Cote Saint Jacques, Burgundy, France. His protégé Amerigio Sesti is running the kitchen and his daughter Marine Lorain is front of house as Maitre d’. The upside down interior is very elegantly delivered. The food is served Asian family style on a rotating glass lazy suzanne with black lacquer chopsticks in addition to silver cutlery. Soup is the only dish individually plated.

VOGUE Lounge

The fourth edition Vogue Lounge is located on the top (6th floor) of the Mahanakorn Cube, at Chong Nongsiri BTS. The earlier three are in Moscow, Dubai & Kiev. An all day all night  place for food, drinks and music. Exquisite food by Vincent Thiery, former Executive Chef at the 3 Michelin stared Caprice at Four Seasons Hong Kong. Supported by mixologist Hideyuki Saito and Hong Kong DJ Maarten Goetheer. Seating for 50 inside and 60 outside. The menu is divided into bite size sweet and savoury plates served a la carte.

Aziamendi

Created by Eneko Atxa  Spain’s youngest recipient of the coveted Michelin 3 stars.  Located 20 minutes north of Phuket International Airport at  Inalia Beach House where Chef de Cuisine Alex Burger, Eneko’s right hand man whopreviously worked with Daniel Boulud in New York. An amazing chef and a culinary magician. In the lounge at lunchtime they serve Aziamendi Plates, a selection of gastronomic pintxos, small gastro snacks. Dinner is a once in a life time dining experience and they won Best Wine List Thailand 2014.
